Carolyn Caldwell at Isalos

Carolyn Caldwell: Fields to the Sea, an exhibition of recent oil paintings, will hang at Isalos Fine Art, Stonington from July 19th through 31st, with an artist’s reception on Friday, July 22nd from 4 to 7 pm.

River to the Sea, oil on canvas, 20" x 20"

This spring, Deer Isle artist Carolyn Caldwell took a drive west in search of landscapes. Her travels took her to Texas, Montana, California, and many miles in between. In what might seem diverse scenery, Caldwell searched for what she calls “the universal landscape”, focusing on atmospheric skies and the interplay of light and dark over colorful hills, fields, and finally, as she returned home, Penobscot Bay. Local waters figure heavily into the show, but Caldwell has returned to them with a fresh perspective gained from her travels. An accompanying catalog will be available. For more information, contact Isalos Fine Art at 367-2700

Katy Allgeyer's "The Lupine Field" Chosen For Lupine Festival

Last year Stonington-based artist Katy Allgeyer went looking for lupine to paint and discovered a large field with an abundance of lupine near route 15 in Deer Isle village. The resulting art work,  "The Lupine Field", has been selected for the poster, totes, and tee shirts for this year's annual Deer Isle-Stonington Lupine Festival (June 17-20).

The original artwork is a 24" x 36" x 1.5" contemporary mixed media painting using topographical maps and acrylic on canvas. Katy's original painting is on view at The Hutton Gallery, 89 North Deer Isle Road (rte 15) in Deer Isle (207/348-6171).
